Internet connection speeds
There's really too much variation to make it a poll
But how fast is everyone's internet connection?
(download/upload/average ping to nearest speedtest.net server)
4mbit/1mbit/28
(price: €30 per month)
Soon to be:
16mbit/3mbit/unknown? but not expecting a worse ping lol
(price: €65 per month)
(would be OK for hosting dontcha think?)

Re: Internet connection speeds
My speed is a 6 meg from Comcast. It is very fast usually downloading at 1.0 MBPS on a direct download.
Okay back on the subject... I don't know what you mean about the ping...all ping is to confirm of what that computer is and it send packets back to verify.
Price $30
- Spoiler:
- Also before I forget...please post something on my Topic on, "What do you consider yourself". If I don't get a post within 3 days, August 22nd I will delete it. http://msclan.ultimarpg.net/discussion-f5/what-do-you-consider-yourself-t23.htm

Re: Internet connection speeds
Short ping times are good - they mean packets you send (also other than ICMP Echo - aka ping) are not delayed much
Comcast is pretty bad for P2P or so I heard, is it really that bad?

So you can just seed without trouble?

No trouble at all unless it starts going seed crazy and hogs up my bandwith connection, which hasn't happened yet... Is there a file you want me to seed?

Re: Internet connection speeds
No, it's just that I'm surprised, on µTorrent's forums I hear many complaints about comcast..
And they appear to be unsolvable (apparently comcast can break TCP connections, maybe by sending rogue FIN's)
So I'm glad to hear you're not affected

Re: Internet connection speeds
Your upload is faster than your download? No way. Are you sure?
(upload was a little low compared to normally)
The faster internet has not yet arrived

Harold is right...your upload is not suppose to be higher than your download.
I see your problem...your Internet is Conjested. Check for Spyware etc etc for slowdowns. It also depends on what OOO your downloading, Not mentioning anything illegal! Assuming that you have dial-up because of the low speed... I advise you to get Broadband even though its a little bit more costler.. you'll be much better off in the long-run.

Nah, nothing is wrong with Comcast... besides the company just started, and how old is the forum or topic or whatever you were reading?

Whoa, I didn't pay attention to that, uh, how do I check for Spyware? Do you mean like scan my computer with my Antivirus program? or..
I don't know, and I've got a problem with getting other Broadband services. (Financial issues; parents, lol.)

Nice speed! (is that with SpeedBoost active or regular?)davidjustinkirk wrote:Harold:

My Speed!
The forum is live right now (http://forum.utorrent.com/index.php) - and the comcast topics just keep popping up from time to time
Problems seem to range from severe speed fluctuations to inability to seed for more than a minute
And then again, there are people who have absolutely no trouble with it
@Molar: you weren't by any chance downloading something when you did the test were you? (if you weren't, something is wrong, a virus perhaps)

Nope, I wasn't downloading nothing, oh I also forgot to add in response to David, yes, I have a lot of illegal things; OOOOOO.

Re: Internet connection speeds
Ah well I would recommend:
hijackthis (post the log)
AVG
and you can use WindowsDefender to check what programs are connected to the internet (yes I know, it kinda sucks, but this is something it can do)
If you use µTorrent also post the hijackthis log on their forum - the people there are used to internet trouble
If you/avg find(s) a virus and can not remove it, maybe I can help you (but only as far as giving instructions, obviously)

Re: Internet connection speeds
Well, I don't know what you mean by "Hijackthis," I think that AVG is an anti-virus software, right? If it is, I don't have that I have NOD32.
With NOD, I've detected only three risks to my computer, all of them Trojans, even though two of them are needed to play a game; so they are safe. The other one, was a Trojan from a website I went to, NOD automatically stopped the connection with the website and quarantined the Trojan.
Um, where is WindowsDefender found on my computer? I don't know where it is.

WindowsDefender
If you are sure you have it already, it'll be in program files of course.
HijackThis
NOD32 causes a lot of trouble, unless you have not experienced that trouble I would recommend switching to AVG Free (yes, it's free, and doesn't cause trouble, but it's not The Best - ultimately, safety is in your own hands no matter what though)

Okay, I downloaded WindowsDefender, did a quick scan and everything was fine, unless I was supposed to do something else?
I didn't download Hijack because I wasn't sure on downloading because it said, " As a result, false positives are imminent, and unless you're sure about what you're doing, you always should consult with knowledgeable folks before deleting anything. Version 2.0.2 includes unspecified updates."

Yup, using the software explorer to check for "Network connected programs"unless I was supposed to do something else?
This thing that hijackthis manged to say before it was even downloaded (?) kinda confuses me though. It's safe, you can download it. Maybe it's a warning that anti-virus software might be allergic to it?

Re: Internet connection speeds
Well, when I have WindowsDefender open, it slows my connection by half.
And where exactly do I go to "Network connected programs."
By the way: not sure if it's a big deal, but I don't have Vista, I have Windows XP media center, I just downloaded a patch to make my pc look like vista.

Re: Internet connection speeds
Good then at least Vista won't bitch about trying to remove the virus (that's right, on vista it's harder to remove some virusses)
I also use XP of course, but I tried the beta (32bit) and more recently Ultimate x64 (know thy enemy )
Now, in windowsDefender, one goes to Tools (menu), SoftwareExplorer (4th item in tools), for good measure, also check what startup programs you have, then change that to "Network connected programs"

Re: Internet connection speeds
That is looking perfectly normal (eset = mod32, MCRD device = media center)
So no help from WindowsDefender..
Have you tried making a HijackThis log?

Is that what you mean by Logfile in Hijack? I don't know what to do now, lol.

Re: Internet connection speeds
That's what I mean
But I don't see anything overtly out of the ordinary there
You sure got a lot of stuff, but it all looks OK as far as I can tell
Well, you could still try to:
* do the speedtest again and pray
* download OpenOffice (legal) with µTorrent and complain on the µTorrent forum if it's slow (they usually know what to do) (or with Azureus for that matter, they aren't crazy either)
* look with windows task manager if there is any network activity at moments that there shouldn't be
* log in on your router/modem and see if there's any rogue activity
If the speedtest results are inconsistent, and stay inconsistent, and you wireless (see where I'm going?) check your router/modem/whatever to see if there are any computers connected that shouldn't be connected (and change the passwords if there are)
Some modems silently assume the role of wireless AP (weird, but it happens - just sometime to keep in mind)
